Purple swamphen

A large, brightly coloured black and blue bird with a large red bill and a large red frontal shield. This bird inhabits swampy grassy areas around the settlement of the Island, and ranges into residents gardens and orchards. Although recorded as a straggler to Lord Howe Island since the 1880's it only colonised in 1985.
