BLACK-WINGED STILT (Himantopus himantopus)

Black-winged stilt

White body and head, with black nape, back and wings. Very long coral pink legs, trailing in flight. Long fine black bill 62mm long.  Length 360mm, wingspan 700mm.

Vagrant. Three confirmed records. September and October 1888, May 2008, July 2011.

Breeds in wet areas Philippines, Australia, New Guinea to New Zealand.
