This display relates the story of how the island was created 7 million years ago from lava erupting through the earths crust at the bottom of the seafloor and over time building two large islands- Lord Howe Island and Ball’s Pyramid Island. Since then the forces of nature have eroded the islands back to less than two per cent of their original size.

Sedimentary rocks and fossil turtles add to this fascinating story.
