Vagrant. One record. A bird was seen by Mark Holdsworth between Lord Howe Island and Balls Pyramid on 5 March 2001 (Birds Australia data). Although this species is considered a rarity in Australia, its occurrence at Lord Howe Island is to be expected. It has increased in number off New Zealand in recent years (Heather & Robertson 1996).
